WBro Lloyd and Life in and around Kyrenia Cyprus

WBro Keith Lloyd and his wife Betty moved to Cyprus some years ago. Keith and Betty just love it in Cyprus despite missing their friends and family in the UK. This page contains some photographs showing the country, their friends and interests.

Betty is seen in the garden at the side of their apartment block - the shrubs are very colourful and will remain until November.

Keith helps Terry Carter at sports and other functions as a first aider / stretcher bearer - Terry is a freemason from the Welland Lodge in Bicester and now lives in Cyprus and runs the 112 Emergency Ambulance Service in the area .

As a former Chairman of the Kyrenia Pumas RFU Club Keith was asked in 2008 to present the Player of the Year Award to Sam Butcher at the end of season dinner at Deniz Kizi Hotel. (Keith have been suffering from a bad back and was unable to shave or dress up).

From Keith's days as a lay clerk and ordinand in the Diocese of St Albans he still retains a strong Christian ethic and is often asked to conduct wedding blessings or assist those who are terminally ill.  In one photograph you can see him reading the letter Anna Jordan (deceased at 79) left for him to read at her 'wake' in the garden of Rafters Restaurant in Ozankoy.  Anna and Keith sat together many times and chatted as she prepared herself for her final journey to God's presence.  Having conquered three former cancers, she eventually succumbed to the ravages of pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

Anna Jordan RIP

The Kyrenia Chamber Choir is a 20 strong group of warblers who 'perform' for charity or just for their own pleasure. In November 2007 they gave a concert in Karaman (Karmi) church as part of the celebrations for Peggy MacIntyre's 100th birthday.

Picture of the choir 'in song'. Peggy's late husband was a Cheshire freemason and a local brother arranged for the District Grand Master for Cyprus to attend the concert to give a short talk about his Masonic career.

Kyrenia's Old Venetian Harbour looks fantastic as it fills up with 80 odd yachts that make up the fleet of the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally - May 2008.

A local feral kitten called 'Ben' had recently adopted Keith and Betty in 2008 - Ben and Betty became great pals.  He had introduced Keith and Betty to five of his brothers and sisters as they left scraps out for them, trays of milk and water, then eventually cans of cat food appeared in the shopping trolley!  Sadly Ben died, probably as a result of poisoning (Turkish Cypriots do not share the British love of animals).  However, one of Ben's sisters has given birth to a litter of five on top of the pergola - one is apparently the spitting image of Ben, so it seems he had his moments in his short life. The local animal welfare group was informed and they soon arrived with needles and other surgical appliances to do what was needed to keep the kittens healthy and stop them reproducing.  In the meantime, more cans from the market are on their shopping list.

On the political front, North & South Cyprus leaders have agreed to open the Locmaci crossing in Nicosia, a hugely symbolic event for all Cypriots. This is the first step on the road to finding a lasting settlement for the island which has been divided on ethinc grounds since 1974.
