W/Bro. John Melvin Prosser 20th December 1944 – January 27th 2007

W/Bro. John joined
Masonry in 1975 and was an active and supportive member of the Lodge until
illness prevented him from attending. Obviously he was one of our longest
serving members being some 31 years.
In 1990 W/Bro
Brian Cable installed him into the ‘Chair’ of the Lodge. As you can see it
took some while in those days to reach the position of Master of the Lodge.
After serving as Master and IPM he rose to the rank of Assistant Director of
Ceremonies to W/Bro. Dave Austin, Director of Ceremonies and on W/Bro.
Austin’s’ retirement from the Lodge, succeeded him as DC. He continued in
that role for some five years with David Lee as his ADC.
John’s work
meant he travelled throughout the country and due to the pressure from his
work handed over the reins of DC to W/Bro David Lee. However it was not
W/Bro. John’s nature just to pack in and go, and it gave him immense
pleasure to be invited by W/Bro Roger Hook back into the ‘Chair’ to initiate
his son Bro. Chris Prosser into the Lodge in 2004. Furthermore, W/Bro.
John not being one to sit back and let things go by, and despite being
poorly, he became a Mentoring officer and thereby able to pass on his
immense knowledge of Masonry to younger brethren.
As time is with him no
more, W/Bro. John, as by his nature, was a member who will be
sadly missed.
